This is a really strong, durable wheel, that’s got a nice wide track to allow several mice to run at once. My wheel did squeak awfully but after the addition of sunflower oil to lubricate the mechanism it was almost silent. This has a twist-fitting onto the bars and fits securely.

My mice all seemed to prefer this wheel to most of the others in the cage. I would give it a 9 out of 10 and definitely buy again.

Pros:

The plastic is made of thick, sturdy plastic, so it would take some dedicated gnawing to do any serious damage to it. It’s also been thoughtfully constructed so there’s no risk of paws or tails being caught in any moving parts. Finally, it’s large enough that both my mice can run in it at once - and they often do!

Cons:

The wheel squeaks something awful, although greasing the axle with a little vegetable oil quickly solves this problem. Any vegetable oil that leaks out to accessible areas gets lapped up by my mice, which isn’t a problem for me as there isn’t much oil, but might be more of an issue if your mice are on a strictly low-fat diet.

The wheel also tilts downwards under the weight of a mouse, so they end up running on a slight incline downwards and outwards. This isn’t a problem anymore as they’ve gotten used to it and know to correct for the tilt, but at first they would occasionally fall out of the wheel. I’m not sure if this is a problem that can be easily fixed without making the wheel more dangerous or requiring a stand. The Silent Spinner has a slight curve upwards at the front of the wheel, so whilst it will still tilt downwards like the Rolly, the curve should correct for that.

However, at less than half the price of the equivalent Silent Spinner and with a larger diameter, the Rolly large is very good value for money. I would definitely recommend it as a first wheel, as it’s cheap, safe, and sturdy, but now that I’ve established that my mice love running in their wheel and aren’t about to destroy it any time soon, I’m considering saving up for a more expensive but hopefully slightly better constructed Silent Spinner.

This wheel is made out of very thick rigid plastic as opposed to the bendier versions out there meaning that the running surface is much more level and the shape is better kept.

I have only had this wheel in the cage (of mostly girls) for 2 nights but it has already usurped the older savic wheel as the favourite they rush to. The running platform is easily wide enough for 2 mice side-by side, or for 2 mice squashed and a third attempting to get on. Many people find this wheel squeaky but so far I’m not having any related issues despite the cage being in my bedroom. Where it was first attached in the cage it did occasionally bump on the wire. However I changed it’s position and the new place doesn’t have the issue suggesting it was down to the cage rather than the wheel itself.

It attaches to the cage bars, but unlike most wheels having a straight barn you turn the rolly has an ergonomic design which makes it easier to twist on. This is a big benefit on a large cage as it needs less stretching on the arms.

I prefer to have a range of different brands of wheel rather than all the same to allow for different mousey preferences. This is a brand I would definitely look to buy again next time a current one dies.

This wheel came with a cage I purchased from eBay. It’s nice and wide to run on and it’s very easy to attach to the cage. Although my mice loved this wheel it was to noisy for me to keep as the cage is in my room and I found even when added to the Rolly Stand it vibrated a lot.

This wheel has a nice wide tread to allow multiple mice to run at once, with no parts that a mouse can catch their tails or feet in, this is a really safe running wheel. It’s so easy to clean, either wipe clean, or soak in warm water and disinfectant for a few mins. When the mice start running in it, the wheel does tilt down quite a way, but most mice soon learn to adjust to this. It is very thick, and despite me dropping it many times, no damage has appeared on it. it does squeak very loudly, but that is solved with a little sunflower oil, which if any leaks out, the mice go mad for.
