Ok Megazorb is made in England, it is the by product of another process and therefore is environmentally sound for manufacture, it is heat dried, so bug free in theory, and is also a paper/wood based product and therefore biologically sound for disposal.

Megazorb is sold in sacks designed for use as horse substrate. However the sacks are cheap an average of £5-6 a sack and will cover as many cages as the rough same cost of shavings in PAH, however as the bedding needs changing less often, maybe every 10-12 days if you are currently changing weekly, it becomes more economic.

The substance of megazorb is the same egg box like material as carefresh, but is much much smaller lumps and therefore softer and easier to bed with. It is very absorbent, and has not had reported any of the harmful side effects of shavings, it is very basic, unscented however the dust levels can vary from sack to sack, the dust though if there is any is a heavy dust and after the change settles and seems to cause no issues to the animals. It is fairly heavy so can be moved, but not really kicked out in large quantity.

Bad points would be that you cant really see wet areas like sawdust can show for those that like to clean the toilet area daily. The dull grey colour, some people mention that it can smell funny, this along with the dust etc can vary from sack to sack. Also in how the mice respond to it, I think they are happier on it than sawdust, its softer for them, they also like to gather together larger pieces in their bed area, it the same way as was mentioned with the cardboard it narrows the entrance until they feel more secure. One draw back though is they can move large areas in a few hours leaving areas completely uncovered.

Place purchased: Fordel Services, near Dalkeith
Price: £4.95 a sack
Score: 9/10

Plus points:

Very economical, 1 sack will last for ages.
Very absorbent
Doesn’t get kicked out of the cage in huge quantities
Environmentally friendly
Warm and soft
Mice like it!

Negative points:
Smells a bit like parmesan cheese when you open the sack! (this seems to go away)
Can be a bit dusty
Isn’t available in very many places

This is my favourite mouse bedding. So much so, that I am willing to drive the 40 mile round trip and fill my car with sacks of Megazorb once a year! I think it’s one of the best beddings for keeping odours down and cage cleaning easier, as it doesn’t stick to the cage base when damp. When you have multiple cages these little things make a big difference.

Place purchased: Bearsden Pet supplies, Dorking
Price: £6-50 for 20 kg
Score: 9/10

I love megazorb-its cheap, non dusty and absorbent.

Pros
-Very absorbant
-Reduces odours
-Cheap
-Small enough to dig in, yet not small enough to fly everywhere.

Cons
-can be hard to source
-Although its absorbant, the wet patches do not show up, making spot cleaning hard
-It leaves a black dust at the bottom of the cage, which can be cleaned/hooverd up with ease

Overall, I love ths product, the pros far outweigh the cons, and I will definitely buy this product again.
