This is a really colourful and fun toy for mice which really awakens their curiosity. We have these in two cages and change the formation of the climbing frame every week to keep it interesting for them. You can buy new packs to replace chewed bits and add to the existing toy to make a bigger, more exciting one! I think it’s really good as it’s safe for them to chew and play on, whilst being affordable and fun for them.

I give this 10 out of 10 and will definitely be buying plenty more packs.

Place Purchased: Local petshop
Price: £4 but they come in varying pack sizes.
Score: 10/10

I got my first of these courtesy to the AAM secret santa, having never heard of them before. These are really fun as each coloured piece of wood has slits in many directions/ places so there is an almost unlimited choice of how to have it arranged - the only limit being if it stands up on it’s own!

Because you can take them all apart, it is very easy to wipe-clean or to store away. I now have 2 of these packs meaning that the more chewed pieces don’t have to be main supports, and I can make it even more exciting!

The Super Pet Build ‘n’ Bites is a modular wooden climbing frame. It comes in 3 sizes: small (6 pieces), medium (10 pieces), and large (14 pieces).

Pros:
The modular nature of the Build ‘n’ Bites is its strongest selling point. The pieces can be slotted together in a number of different ways, and you can combine multiple sets to build something enormous. It’s the most versatile of all the toys I’ve seen as it can be made into a different climbing frame every week.

Cons:
The pieces don’t slot together perfectly, so the resultant structure will be a bit wobbly, although not dangerously so. Also, the way the notches are cut means that certain combinations of pieces will only join up in certain ways, which I found slightly limiting.

Overall:
The Build ‘n’ Bites is a great idea and definitely value for money. Whilst the construction isn’t perfect, it’s still much better than many other wooden pet toys out there. My mice really seem to enjoy it - along with the Trixie Natural Living Playground, this is one of only 2 toys they’ve ever paid any attention to during free-range time, and they certainly paid this a lot of attention. Finally, it’s nearly as much fun for the owner to put together as it is for the mice to climb on and gnaw.

Update:

Rating: 5/10

I originally gave the Build ‘n’ Bites 8/10, but unfortunately after a few months of frustration, I have decided to drop their score to 5/10.

In my original review, I mentioned that the way that the pieces were cut leads to somewhat wobbly structures, and at the time I didn’t realise just how annoying this would become. I have since found that pieces are prone to falling off and entire structures can fall apart solely from being picked up and moved to a different corner of the cage, due to the notches not fitting together snugly enough. As I like to rearrange the toys in my cage every few days, and as it’s a little difficult to reattach pieces that have fallen off when the structure is still inside the cage, this problem has proven to be so annoying that I have given up on the Build ‘n’ Bites as an in-cage toy, and now use it only when free ranging.

My overall impression of the Build ‘n’ Bites, now, is a fantastic idea that has been frustratingly poorly executed.

Score: 8.5/10

When I bought these I thought they’d be an excellent stimulus for the mice as the love to chew and climb. It has loads of slits to and is quite stable. My mice seem to use it as an optional home and don’t chew it. They love to sit there and sleep! The bad thing is if they pee on it (which they certainly do!) the colours run and it ends up on you if you try to clean it. It does get a bit rickety in the end though! I would definitely buy it!

Review 5 of 5

Place Purchased: “Petstock” (Pet supplies store in Vic AUS)
Price: $10.00 AU
Score: 8/10

Pros
The packet comes with about 8 coloured wooden pieces (this of course depends on what size packet you get). My mouse love this little thing but I find it’s best used for free play rather than inside the cage. They seem to get more use out of it when its not in the cage. Once you get the pieces together they way you want you can enjoy watching your mice climb all over it and you know its ok if they decide it looks tasty.

Cons
It took me about 10 minutes to get the pieces together. The little slots aren’t always the right sizes for the wood and you end up fighting against it trying to push pieces together. Some of the pieces will be loose in the gaps and others will be tight. Also I found that it’s hard to prop up so it stands straight. Although that may just be my bad design techniques.

Overall
My mice do seem to enjoy it but I wouldn’t pay more that $10.00 AU for it as it can prove frustrating.
