The Sputnik is a plastic house for small animals that can either be hung upside-down from the cage bars or stood upright on the floor. It comes in blue, yellow, or half blue and half yellow.

Pros:
It comes apart easily for cleaning; is large enough to hold 3 mice comfortably; and has 3 large exits so mice should feel they have an adequate number of escape routes.

Cons:
It’s made of much thinner plastic than the Savic cage bases and wheels, so it’s much more vulnerable to chewing. It also clips onto the cage bars in a slightly insecure manner - my mice sometimes manage to unclip one of the legs, probably by leaping into the Sputnik at high speed. I’ve never had it fall, however, and I don’t know if there’s any clip design that would be completely secure but still allow the Sputnik to stand upright. Also, any loose bedding in it will get kicked out very easily due to the large exits, so I’ve cut up some old fabric to put in there instead.

Overall:
I would especially recommend the Sputnik for mice who prefer having a number of easily accessible escape routes. It probably wouldn’t be as popular with mice who prefer very enclosed spaces, and it probably won’t last very long with mice who are avid plastic-chewers. However, it is in general a cute and practical small animal house, and I think it’s good value for money. I like it - and so do my mice.

We have hung one of these from the top of a Mickey Max cage and it was very secure and a favoured sleeping spot. We filled it with strips of kitchen roll to help keep it clean and provide additional warmth. It now sits on the ground in our bigger cage as we don’t have a barred roof to hang it from and it is still nice and sturdy.

It is a great size for mice and being plastic it can be wiped clean in seconds. A great mouse accessory.

I was originally going to review this much lower since my mice barely used it and avoided it like the plague. Now, suddenly, they have started sleeping in it every night and love it. It’s not too expensive, is very very easy to clean, and the fact that it clips onto the roof is great since it doesn’t waste floor space. An added bonus is that you can actually see your mice when they’re in it.

I bought one of these to make use of wasted space at the top of my cage. It is a popular toy, often used for eating or napping. It is wipe-clean as it is made of plastic and is available in two bright colours, yellow and blue. It can be hung from the bars or used free standing, so it can be placed pretty much anywhere in the cage.

All I can say it my mouse absolutely loves this, he’s always sleeping in it. He also jumps into it and hangs out when he wants to come out. I like this because it’s so easy to clean and when I go in my room I can check on him without disturbing him.

This was given such a thumbs up from everyone I talked to, that I bought one before I even had a cage. I regret that now, as none of the mice use it at all.

This can hang from a barred roof, or stand on the floor, so it’s very practical to use, whatever sort of home your mice live in. It comes apart into two pieces, for very easy cleaning and has three large holes for escape/access from any angle…although these might be too large for a lot of mice, as it’s very open. It’s deep enough to add substrate/bedding/food, whilst still being shallow enough for mice to get out.

When this is hanging from the roof, it seems stable enough, with the clips facing different directions, it looks as though it would take any tension, but I can easily pull one of the legs off with a tiny amount of sudden pressure…this said, I’ve never been able to detach more than one, so it’s still safe, but it’s worrying nonetheless. The part where it comes apart is also easily detachable in the same way, so equally worrying.

My mice haven’t used this for anything other than somewhere to dash through when they don’t want to come out! I’ve tried all sorts of bedding, substrate and even just used it as their food dish. The food was the most successful, with them leaning in, getting the food and then sitting next to it whilst eating…

I wouldn’t buy another of these, even if I had a mouse love it to pieces, as there are plenty of cheaper options which do the same job and are totally safe.
