This cage is very small, and I would not keep any animal in it full time, however it does have its uses.

I am currently using it for a small group of girls for a few months until they grow into their larger cage. The bar spacing for the grid front and back doors is nice and narrow and gives the girls a little climbing space and plenty of ventilation, which would I feel be missing from a crate or tank, which would really be my only other option as they have escaped from every other cage used both at mine and at the breeders.

I would thoroughly recommend this cage for a small amount of young mice to allow socialisation. The tube at the front provides a great hiding place for the nervous mice, but is also easy to remove with little disturbance or fear for the mice and allows the mice in the tube to be moved to somewhere such as a bath or bed area for playtimes and so they can be handled in a more relaxed situation than chasing them around the cage. Also the large doors make it easy to pick up any slightly more willing mice.

I also feel it would be great as a travel cage and will likely use it in the future to deliver or collect mice. The wheel is clipped on, easy to remove for cleaning but also therefore cant fall on the mice and cause injury or trap the mice. Though should probably be removed for the actual journey.

Plus sides include that it is attractive colours for children and likely the best of the tube cages, if it encourages even a few children away from crittertrail or others it would be a good thing. It can be attached to other Savic cages either those with tubes or on the larger ones, I believe via door adaptors (and the tubes connect solidly to crittertrail tubes also, not tried others) The cage and tubes are very easy to clean, come apart easy open in half to allow easy cleaning, and are not a struggle to re assemble like crittertrail tubes can be.

On the down side hopefully it will never be brought as a long term home for a mouse, even a single male once large enough needs to move to somewhere else. Because there are few bars there is no way to really add another level. Also because the tubes are so easy to remove there is the remote possibly they could get knocked off, though I’ve seen no evidence of this, if I was using it in a car for example I would make sure the tube pointed outwards with no pressure on it, or would consider if it was frequently used like this to have the push on covers and remove the tube when travelling.

I really can’t help but LOVE this cage, and I don’t know why! It was my first cage for my first pair of bucks (before I learned everything on here) and I absolutely loved it. Even though it lacks the proper space, its fun looking, easy to clean and has a nice little tube on the front. On a more practical side, it doesn’t offer fantastic ventilation even though it is more open then other tanks. It hasn’t got a lot of space, and now i would only use it in an emergency for a short period of time. Its good for keeping tiny mice in, as the bar spacing is very small, less than 1cm. It’s easy to clean, the water bottle goes on really easy, and its very easy to access your mice as it opens both sides, only difficult when they run in the tunnel. I wouldn’t advise buying this cage as a permanent home now, but as a hospital or emergency cage its very handy.
