Wire cage with deep plastic base. Removable wire shelf with ladder. Large door in the top. Good size for a group of mice, shelf with ladder not ideal as hard to get under due to positioning of the door, but can be replaced. Lots of space for toys, and can be easily attached to the sturdy bars. I’d definitely buy one of these again.

Having had the bigger versions the Savic Freddy for a while I was on the lookout for the Ruffy. The cage has a deep base meaning substrate is hardly ever kicked out eve when burrowing. This also means the bottom is more draft-free than other cages making it more suitable for elderly/ ill animals. The Ruffy also has firm carry hadles on the top and I would keep up to 4 fancy mice in it.
The bar spacing is 9mm with horizontal bars on the long side with vertical ones on the short sides allowing for easy water bottle and coop-cup etc. attachment. Unlike other cages the design has been thoroughly thought through with normal weak spots such as the doors and top being reinforced (and a fabulous door clip) resulting in no ‘dangerous’ areas for escapees to make use of. The thicker ’support’ bars are also significantly nearer together than in similar cages resulting in an overall much sturdier frame. The door is big enough to fit all toys and wheels through without needing to remove the cage from the base. The old version comes with a full depth wire shelf while the new with a rat-sized tube instead, fair enough as it is intended as a rat cage.
You do have to be creative when designing the set-up including adding another shelf so as not to waste space. However personally I don’t find this any harder than any other cage. I would definitely buy this cage again as it is just so versatile.
