Hemp horse bedding. This looks very like woodshavings, but is actually a lot softer and smells lovely (to me anyway).
Plus points:
Very economical, 1 bale will last for ages.
Very absorbent
Environmentally friendly
Warm and soft
Nice fresh natural odour
It floats, so doesn’t end up going down the plug hole by accident
Doesn’t stain white mice (or other colours of mice!)
Mice like it!
Negative points:
Tends to migrate around the house on everything.
Sticks to hammocks so each bit needs picked off individually before hammocks get laundered.
It floats, meaning you need to skim it off any water in the bath/sink/ bucket etc. This increases cage cleaning time.
I like this product, and would use it more often if I only had one or two cages to maintain, as the increased mess would then be negligible.
