This cage was bought for me as present when I decided that I would like to keep some mice of my own, rather than share my daughters! It is a nice solid build and reasonably easy to put together, although it was a bit fiddly to get the shelves clipped onto the right place. The cage comes with a selection of cage accessories (tubes, food and water dispensers, wheel & bed) but many of these push the bars apart, and would probably pose an escape issue for young or small mice. One of mine escaped on her first day - we believe she got through the latch on one of the three doors. We have now blocked this bigger space on all the doors and haven’t had any further wanderers!

My main bugbear of this cage is that it is quite awkward to clean. I have replaced the standard wheel with a Silent Spinner, which because of it’s rigid structure does not fit through any of the cage doors, meaning it cannot easily be removed to be cleaned other than on the main cage clean. Also the tubes that are designed for access between the base and the shelves are very awkward to put together, which I find annoying.

Overall though, I’m pleased with cage, and I wouldn’t discourage anyone from buying one, as I think it represents good value and a decent sized cage for the money.

The Jack 72 is a nice, large cage. Ours is home to 2 males. It comes with two shelves. They are not designed to move regularly although this is possible. Shortly after getting it we moved one shelf up high and left the other one low. This doesn’t make cleaning very easy, so it now only has the left-hand side low shelf. This allows for more interesting rope toys and larger cardboard items in the base.

The tubes that also came with it are not used as they were difficult to use and clean. It also gives the mice more exercise without them. Cleaning it takes a fair amount of time, due to it’s size.

The bar spacing is 1cm and is safe for mice. There are three doors, all quite small but not overly inconvenient. Our boys are usually very friendly so that helps. It comes flatpacked and is not difficult to assemble. Overall this cage is good and I would recommend it.
