I bought one of these second hand from eBay, damaged and had two clips missing. Also didn’t have the extras it originally came with. Even then, I loved it so much, I bought another (at the price shown above).

This s a medium/small cage, which could hold up to 4 females and obviously less males. I have two girls in one and a single buck in the other and they love it! There’s plenty of scope for toys/accessories, so they won’t get bored and neither will you.

My mice would give this cage 4.5/5. They only knock half a point off because it’s not as huge as the outside world! It’s big enough for them to have LOTS of fun, though. You can fit a few wheels in, so even if they’re really posessive, they can each have their own toys. There’s plenty of room to put in hammocks/hanging toys, even with the suggested setup.

The base is deep eough to have a deep layer of substrate and lets them have lots of fun digging! The bars are very close together (7.5mm) so they keep in even the most determined little blighters! The bars do get pushed apart a little by water bottle spouts and the clips that keep the cage on the base…but even then, it’s hardly a cm gap and the bars are VERY strong, so the gap that’s made is kept close to the object creating the gap…keeping it hard for the mice to squeeze out.

For me the cage gets a 4.5/5 too! It’s fantastic! It comes pretty much assembled, all you have to do is attach the base and put the platforms in and you’re ready to go! It’s a bit heavier than you expect, or maybe just bulky…but it has two handles which are firmly attached, so that helps and the base isn’t too bendy, so if you’re lifting it above you you don’t get so much of a ‘popping’ base, catapulting substrate everywhere! (Which can happen with some cages!).

The accessibility is great. It has two doors in the front, one higher up and one lower down, so that if you have the levels in as suggested, you have easy access to each and it also has a huge door in the domed top, so you can get ANYTHING in and out with little fuss! This does mean that if you want to put lots of hammocks in, you have to avoid the huge door, or unclip them before opening it, but I don’t think this takes too long.

The Hagen Dome comes with two wooden levels, two wooden ramps with ridges, a flatpacked wooden house, two wooden logs with holes and a wheel. The wooden items will need a safe coating if you’re wanting them to last, but that’s simple enough. The wooden house is extremely easily put together and very nice looking. The logs’ holes are VERY small…only good for mice or dwarf hamsters. A larger animal wouldn’t get stuck as they wouldn’t be able to fit any part of their body in them! The wheel isn’t too bad, although it might need a good bit of vegetable oil to move smoothly. I didn’t use the wheels, as I much prefer other makes, but I haven’t thrown them away. They’d be better suited to larger (stronger) animals in my opinion.

It’s only fault is it’s domed roof, which makes it impossible to stack more cages on top, which is important it you have a lot of (ie too many!) cages, as you’d have to either spread them around the room or buy other makes of cage as well. But that wouldn’t stop me buying another. I plan on buying another as soon as I see one!
