Aubiose is a hemp litter intended for use in horses’ stables.
I was wary of Aubiose initially as I’d heard several reports that it could be dusty. In my experience that hasn’t been true. It does has a slight, natural smell to it but nothing particularly strong. It’s softer than it appears and does a commendable job controlling mousey odours. The manufacturer stresses that Aubiose is grown organically, using renewable resources and is environmentally friendly, which is nice too.
My mice seem to love Aubiose and have great fun tunnelling in it, digging in it and generally throwing it all around the cage. And out of it. This is a very messy litter and if you put a deep layer in the cage, it inevitably ends up on the floor and will quickly make its way around the rest of the house.
Storing the bale was a little problematic for me, as I live in a small flat. Each bale is quite large and heavy but because it is well compressed, you get a lot of Aubiose for your money.
I will finish the bale I have but I doubt I will buy any more of it. The mice might like it but the mess it makes is terrible and I am constantly picking bits up off the carpet. If I had wooden floors and could just sweep up escaped bits of Aubiose, I think I’d be more inclined to persevere with it because otherwise it’s a very good litter.
