|
|
I don't mean things in with their mixes/daily food, but as treats in their free range play areas/hidden around their cages/hand fed through the bars etc.
Ours get
All types of nuts
Mealworms
Dried wholemeal crusts
Small amounts of mashed potato
Small bits of cooked chicken
5mm sized pieces of cheese
5mm sized pieces of wholemeal biscuits
Small amounts of scrambled or boiled egg
and a few other things that i can't remember offhand.
Our meeces are odd things, they won't touch carrots, apple, or most types of veg. They just ignore them or throw them out of their cage.
Just wondered what others give as treats and maybe give us some more ideas for out five girls. |

Treats wise they don't get much. The oddtiny choc drop as bribery and we occasionally put small broken dog biscuits in the cage for them to find.
But we give them things like veg, rice & seeds as part of their normal food. _________________ Hi from Stilton, Gwen & Vala

Mine adore coriander, so much so that it's crazy!
They also like mealworms, dandelion flowers (in the summer!), broccoli, monkey nuts, hemp seeds and pumpkin seeds. _________________ Mum to Houdini, Olive, Tahini, Button, Cinnamon and Paprika |

Houdini, my girls love Coriander as well (my pigs get it every few days...mostly because Frank is a stubborn little brat who doesn't *like* capsicum so I had to find something else to give him that's high in Vitamin C) I walked past the cage one day with it and I had 5 little noses sniffing at me through the bars...put a little pile in and they all devoured it in seconds.
Mine get
Pumpkin Seeds
Banana Chips
Cooked Pasta
Chicken
Mealworms (are omg best thing ever to them)
Red Butter lettuce (no idea...they love :/)
Broccoli (florets only, the pigs get the stems)
Banana Custard (baby food), I mix a little bit with some corn puffs and they love it!)
Ice blocks (on hot days)
Scrambled Egg (still a bit unsure of this one)
Boiled Potato
Steamed Peas + Corn
Raw peas (for pea fishing)
Corn Silk (seriously, try it...my guinea pigs think it's the best thing ever too!) _________________ Mice: Janet, Sam, Cassandra, Vala and Jennifer

Wow, thanks for the replies, given us a few more choices for our girls.
Forgot ours also have small amounts of
rice
pasta
spaggetti
and they all love a small amount of pot noodles.
Couple of questions, cooked or uncooked ?
kale
broccoli
mushrooms
Tuna, fresh ? tinned ? in brine or water ?

Hi Mancmouse,
I always give kale, broccoli and mushrooms uncooked - I figure that at the end of the day mice were designed to live in the wild so whatever they ate naturally would be uncooked. So anything we can eat raw I make sure the micies do too!
Not sure about tuna though - maybe someone else can help. I'd guess fresh would be best, or in spring water if tinned?? _________________ Mum to Houdini, Olive, Tahini, Button, Cinnamon and Paprika |

Thanks for the advice houdini mouse, we've given our girls broccoli uncooked and they love it, wasn't sure if it was better cooked though.
What you say about 'if they were living in the wild' makes a lot of sense as they will only eat things that they like naturally. |

You have dog kibble which you add to your mix, like James Well Beloved or some such. Then you have dog biscuits as treats. Mine like the Pets at Home puppy treats occassionally _________________ Freddy 2:- currently home to Lupin, Lily, Tulip and Solo, HH home to Rose and Poppy / Foster Mum to:-Patrick
